Because of the close nature of dental work, social distancing is very difficult to maintain. For this reason, NHS guidelines means that routine check-ups and non-urgent work has been cancelled. Dentists continue to see patients for emergency appointments but many dentists ask their patients to ring first so that they can check whether they are showing any symptoms of Covid-19. What they can do for emergency patients is limited to advice, analgesia and anti-microbial means which may include anti-biotics. For more serious cases, such as fractured teeth, severe pain and post-extraction bleeding, the dentist may be able to refer you to a Local Urgent Dental Care system. If you are not currently registered with a dentist, then the Clinical Commissioning Group has commissioned a dentist for emergency appointments, who may be able to see you.
